ErgoTech Upgrades ErgoCim
First "Plug and Play" Component Software for Manufacturing
Los Alamos, NM-- February 15, 1996 -- ErgoTech Development, Inc.,
a leading supplier of integratable solutions for manufacturing
management and industrial automation, today announced that it is
shipping an upgraded version of ErgoCim and its Manufacturing Open
Framework Architecture (MOFA). Complementing the distributed object
structure of ErgoCim, this upgrade supports a complete component
architecture allowing runtime modification of the system. ErgoCim
allows for a "software tool change" by loading and unloading
components, analogous to a tool change on a production machine.
MOFA is now fully independent of the user interface, paving the
way for an HTML/Java Man Machine Interface.
"ErgoCim is the first true component software for manufacturing",
said Jim Redman, President of ErgoTech. "The ability to load and
unload components while the application is running is one of the
many critical features needed in an agile manufacturing environment."
Among the new features are:
- Support for runtime loading and unloading of software components,
including hardware drivers and software modules.
- Automatic search and load for components and component dependencies.
- Network independence, allowing loaded components to communicate
with other objects anywhere on the network.
- Improved user interface, including additional tools and support
for customized loadable tools.
- Integration of third party interface designers. Interfaces can
be run-time linked into ErgoCim.
- Support for HyperTech, an easy to use program interface based on
a HyperText interface.
- Compiled BASIC-like control language (Sage II) for fast development
of components.
- Multi-domain servers, allowing simple and flexible configuration
of shop floor machines.
- Fully compatible with HTML and Java (Intranet interface expected Q2 1996).
MOFA and ErgoCim provide a flexible, integratable manufacturing
management and industrial process control solution for manufacturers
or other information intensive industries. The ability to load
components also allows data from legacy systems located on workstation
or mainframe platforms to be easily integrated into the MOFA
framework. A component, once loaded, immediately becomes a part of
the enterprise-wide distributed ErgoCim application. This, together
with object-oriented support for SQL databases, makes ErgoCim ideally
suited to the demanding agile manufacturing industries including
the semiconductor, aerospace and pharmaceutical industries.
About ErgoTech Development:
ErgoTech is the leading commercial provider of distributed object
technology for manufacturers. ErgoTech develops and sells ErgoCim,
a flexible object-oriented product for industrial and manufacturing
automation and enterprise-wide manufacturing information access.
ErgoCim provides networked components for human machine interfaces
(ErgoVision), alarm handling, and control of discrete processes.
HyperTech, an integratable manufacturing execution system (IMES),
provides hypertext type access to information located throughout
the organization, including real-time process information, and
information stored in legacy applications such as MRP II or ERP
systems.
ErgoCim currently runs on Intel PC (including VME based systems),
HP, and Sun platforms under NEXTSTEP.
